The alarm sounds at some ungodly hour of the A.M, it’s the thick of winter and the thought of leaving the comfort of bed is almost unbearable and to make matters harder, next to you is your partner sleeping soundly - you hit snooze and drift back off to dreamland – sound familiar? Exercise is a great healthy habit made a whole lot easier if your partner is also getting up with you in the mornings - it minimises the temptation of going back to bed.
Whether it's a New Year resolution or you're shredding for a holiday, if you need extra motivation to exercise, setting goals with your partner could be the solution. Workouts with your partner will help you stick to your guns even when it’s the last thing you feel like doing as you don’t want to let them down (or vice versa).
You’ll push yourself harder
Having a partner by your side may be the key to reaching your fitness goals. If you’ve noticed solo sweat sessions just don’t deliver the results they used to, it may be because you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough anymore. When couples work out they push and motivate each other and are more likely to experience positive results.
Quality bonding time
Working out with your other half, whether it’s running at the same pace or lifting weights in rhythm, creates “nonverbal matching.” According to Psychology Today, nonverbal matching helps people feel “emotionally attuned with one another.” Those who experience it tend to report greater feelings of bonding with their partner.
A happier relationship
Exercise literally makes for a happier relationship! Among all the other benefits, exercising helps stimulate the release of feel-good brain chemicals called endorphins and two happy individuals equals a happy relationship. The release of endorphins also helps boost your libido so not only will working out together make you happier but it could see you getting it on more. Plus, when you’re feeling good about yourself you’ll be more willing to get intimate.
With the above in mind, remember that no one ever regrets exercising – it’s great for the mind, body and soul. So on those mornings where you just can’t muster the energy, reach deeper and chuck on your sneakers!
